A free examination by a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon should be scheduled if you notice any changes to the angioma, such as if it changes color, shape, or size.
The same applies if the angiomas are located in a place of constant irritation, injury, or itching.
Based on the examination, our doctor assesses whether it is necessary:
- removal of angiomas using radio wave technique or
- laser removal.
Of course, it is possible to schedule the removal of red moles for aesthetic reasons.

What are angiomas?
Angiomas are benign skin lesions, often called red moles. These lesions consist of an enlarged capillary network.
What is the difference between an angioma and a mole? How to recognize the difference?
Who gets red moles?
What can cause angioma?
Sclerotic changes in the walls of small blood vessels in the skin are the most common cause of angiomas, but they can also occur in people taking anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy.
How to recognize angiomas? What do angiomas look like?
These are small red or reddish-bluish, round or oval lesions on the skin with a smooth surface. The size can vary from 2 to 10 mm in diameter. They are most often at the level of the skin or slightly protruding, but they can also be significantly bulging when they grow in diameter.
Are there different types of angiomas?
Yes, there are several different types of angiomas, the most common of which are:
- Cherry angiomas (resembling a cherry fruit) – are most often present on the upper body (extremities and trunk) and usually appear after the age of 40.
- Spider angiomas – small, very red spots with a central focus from which smaller blood vessels branch out, resembling spider legs, and can occur at all ages.
- Venous lake – a bluish or red bump (macular) that most often appears on the lip in later life.
Who can get red moles?
They occur at all ages, but their number increases with age.
Anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy can promote the appearance and growth of angiomas.

What are hemangiomas?
Hemangiomas are congenital malformations of blood vessels.
What does a hemangioma look like?
What is the difference between angioma and hemangioma?
The first difference is in the time of occurrence. Hemangioma is present at birth and can expand in the first years of a child’s life, while angiomas appear later, usually only after puberty.
Is it necessary to remove a hemangioma?
Hemangiomas usually disappear spontaneously after the age of 5 or at the latest 7 years. If they do not disappear, then, in addition to the aesthetic problem, laser or surgical therapy is applied, depending on the size and location.
Is it recommended to remove angioma?
Angiomas are benign changes and do not represent a health problem. When they are small in diameter, they can be an aesthetic problem. However, when they are larger and are located in places where they are exposed to friction or injury, their removal is recommended, because if injured, they can bleed heavily, which can be very uncomfortable for the patient.
What procedures can be used to remove angiomas?
- Radio wave technology
- Laser procedure Nd:Yag ili Nano Q laser
Which method do we recommend for removing angiomas at the DIVA Polyclinic?
Radio wave technique is the optimal procedure for removing these changes due to its advantages.
What are the benefits of removing red moles with radio waves?
This procedure is:
- safe,
- comfortable,
- painless thanks to the use of local anesthetic,
- efficient,
- fast,
- only one visit is needed,
- The scars after the procedure are barely noticeable.

Laser removal of angioma
Sometimes vascular Nd:Yag or Nano Q lasers are preferred.
Based on the examination, due to the size, type or position of the angioma, we decide whether to apply radio wave or laser techniques.
The laser method is recommended for small angiomas and is very comfortable for the patient. No anesthesia is required because a special device is used for forced cooling of the skin, which makes the treatment painless.
It usually takes 2 to 3 visits to remove an angioma.
What are the benefits of laser removal of red moles?
This method is recommended for small angiomas and is very comfortable for the patient. No anesthesia is required because a special device is used for forced cooling of the skin, which makes the treatment painless. It usually takes 1-3 visits to remove the angioma.
What is the advantage of laser angioma removal compared to radio wave technique?
The advantage over radio wave technology is that lasers selectively affect only blood vessels, leaving the skin intact. However, it is only applicable to small angiomas up to 1.3 mm in diameter.
How to choose a technique for removing angioma?
Based on the examination, we decide whether to use radio wave or laser techniques due to the size, type, or position of the angioma.
How many treatments are needed to remove angiomas?
When it comes to radio wave technology, one treatment is needed to remove angiomas. Laser removal requires 1-3 treatments spaced one month apart to remove red moles.
Is the angioma removal procedure painful?
No, it is very comfortable for the patient. When it comes to radio waves, at the DIVA clinic we use an anesthetic cream. In the case of laser removal, a special device is used for forced cooling of the skin.
What is the procedure after angioma removal? What precautions should be taken?
After the laser treatment of angioma, the treated area may be slightly reddish for up to 7 days. After the radio wave treatment of angioma removal, a scab forms on the site where the angioma was located, which falls off within 7 to 10 days. Also, the treated area should be covered with SPF 50+ creams for the next 2 months.

NOTE:
Whether radio waves are an adequate method for removing angiomas will be assessed by a specialist doctor during a free consultation.
The results of the procedure may vary from patient to patient, and this is influenced by factors such as skin type, i.e. whether it is prone to scar tissue formation.
