What are stretch marks?
Given that stretch marks are scars caused by sudden stretching of the skin, which leads to tearing of the connective tissue, i.e. collagen and elastin fibers, which otherwise allow the skin to be firm and taut, they represent skin damage. There are two types of stretch marks, wrinkled lines on the skin:
- pink or light red stretch marks with visible blood vessels (in the first stages of formation),
- white stretch marks, which are slightly narrower (because as time passes, the blood vessels shrink, and the stretch marks lighten and narrow).
When can stretch marks appear?
The causes of the formation of stretch marks are different, and most often they occur:
- due to genetic predisposition,
- during pregnancy (especially on the chest and abdomen),
- due to weight variation (which affects tissue tearing),
- in adolescents due to rapid growth (which leads to intensive stretching of the skin),
- due to the use of certain preparations,
- consequence of hormonal imbalance (due to which collagen softens).
Is it possible to prevent stretch marks?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to prevent the formation of stretch marks. However, certain creams can be used to prevent the appearance of stretch marks in large numbers.
What are all the treatments for removing stretch marks?
Today, there are a large number of ways that, more or less successfully, affect the “retraction” of stretch marks, and these are the most common:
- mesotherapy (during this treatment, a needle is placed along the lines of stretch marks, in order to activate the increase of collagen and elastin in the skin),
- dermroller treatment (works similarly to mesotherapy),
- carboxytherapy (medicinal carbon dioxide is injected into each line of stretch marks with the intention of causing tissue regeneration),
- chemical peels
- surgical methods (this method can be carried out if the skin is so damaged that hanging tissue has appeared)
- laser treatments (the thermal energy of the laser beam stimulates the tissue to create collagen and elastin, and at the same time it performs a gentle exfoliation).
You will often hear that stretch marks can be completely healed, but this is not true because they are scars. However, the techniques for removing stretch marks that have been perfected so far can make them less visible.
Which way to remove stretch marks is effective?
A strong effect in the treatment of stretch marks is provided by the laser.
Older stretch marks – white
The experience of specialist doctors at the “Diva” polyclinic confirms the previous findings of other experts, that fractionated ER: Yag laser treatment is effective in the fight against older – white stretch marks. During this procedure, the laser beam encourages the skin to produce NEW collagen and elastin, without affecting the surrounding tissue, which results in better quality, smooth, tight and elastic skin after the treatment.
The fractionated laser beam makes microscopic wounds deep in the skin, exactly where the stretch marks originate, and allows the surface tissue to be renewed within 24 hours, while at the same time in the deeper parts of the skin, the creation of elastin and collagen is stimulated, and the peeling effect further reduces the visibility of the stretch marks .
In this way, the effect of thickening the skin is achieved in the places where stretch marks are located, that is, where it has become thinner. In this way, stretch marks are reduced by as much as 50% to 60% in the period of 2 to 4 months during which laser treatments are applied (which all depends on the skin type, the age of the patient and the type of stretch marks, as well as the state of health).
In the period between the two procedures, doctors do not recommend tanning the treated area.
Young stretch marks – red
When it comes to the treatment of young red stretch marks, the recommendation of the specialist doctor at the Diva Polyclinic is treatment with the D light SR laser. With the help of this laser, a high degree of elimination of young stretch marks is achieved, around 70 to 90%, and that is why it is important to start the treatment as soon as possible for the effect to be as good as possible.

The treatment itself lasts about half an hour.
How many treatments are needed to remove stretch marks?
Depending on the thickness and type of skin, as well as the width of the stretch marks, it has been shown that on average it is sufficient to perform 2 to 4 treatments, with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between them.
And the real effect is visible after 6 months from the last treatment.
