- primary or idiopathic hyperhidrosis is considered a state of excessive sweating when there is no other disease, while
- secondary hyperhidrosis when increased sweating occurs under the influence of infection, neurological or endocrine diseases, systemic connective tissue diseases, malignant diseases or injuries of the spinal column.
- focal hyperhidrosis is a condition in which increased sweating affects certain parts of the body – armpits, palms, soles, face…
- and in generalized hyperhidrosis, sweating is excessive all over the body.

What are the causes of excessive sweating - increased sweating?
The causes of profuse sweating can be:
- physiological
- symptomatic and
- genetic.
Physiological cause of excessive sweating
The physiological cause of hypertosis occurs in the state of climax, pregnancy or, for example, excessive physical work.
Symptomatic cause of excessive sweating
Symptomatic hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that accompanies symptoms of diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis or pneumonia.
Genetic cause of increased sweating
Genetic hyperhidrosis is an inborn tendency to sweat profusely.
Hyperhidrosis – other causes
Excessive sweating can also be a reaction to taking different substances such as drugs, nicotine, alcohol…
Of course, it should be mentioned that emotional and psychological stress also affect excessive sweating. The above causes are accompanied by symptoms such as hand tremors and heart palpitations.
Even damage to the nervous system affects the sweating disorder.
Excessive sweating - when to suspect hyperhidrosis?
There are different levels of hyperhidrosis:
- mild hyperhidrosis – it is characterized by increased sweating under the armpits, palms and feet,
- moderate-severe hyperhidrosis – excessive sweating of the face occurs, then neck sweating occurs, sweat droplets form under the armpits, on the palms and feet,
- severe hyperhidrosis – begins with excessive sweating of the head and neck, drops of sweat flow from the armpits, palms and feet.

How does a specialist diagnose hyperhidrosis?
Our body has, on average, between 2 and 5 million sweat glands, and they are most densely distributed on the forehead, back of the head, under the armpits, on the palms and soles.
Sweating is a normal function of the body that enables thermoregulation. When the outside temperatures are high, we sweat in order to maintain the proper body temperature and it can be manifested on the whole body.
Why does increased sweating occur?
Situations in which increased sweating can also occur are those during which there is an emotional charge, and then the face, armpit region, palms and soles of the feet usually sweat. At the same time, we sweat during physical activities.
In order to determine whether a person has hyperhidrosis, it is not necessary to conduct special tests. The clinical picture is very obvious considering that the excessive secretion of the sweat glands is already visible during the examination itself. Also, based on the conversation with the patient, it is clear what it is about as soon as he mentions that he often has stains on his clothes from sweat even when he was not in stressful situations or engaged in any physical activity or was exposed to high temperatures.
Excessive sweating occurs in about 3% of the population and is not dangerous to health, but the doctor can refer the patient to additional tests in case he suspects that it was caused by another disease in order to determine the exact cause and implement appropriate therapy if it is secondary hyperhidrosis. .
Who has increased sweating?
Increased sweating can occur in both men and women, regardless of the patient’s age.
Doctor's recommendation after the procedure of treating excessive sweating when it comes to deodorants
There are no restrictions after the hyperhidrosis treatment procedure with Botox. It is important that during the first 24 hours nothing is used when it comes to deodorants, and after that you can use the one that suits you.

Is the treatment of increased sweating dangerous?
Adverse reactions are rare, you only need to inform a specialist doctor if you have allergic reactions to certain substances.
Is there any other procedure performed at the Diva Polyclinic to reduce excessive sweating?
An alternative solution is epilation of the armpits, because after it the sweat glands are reduced, thus reducing the production of sweat, but this procedure does not give as effective results as Botox treatment.
Does increased sweating indicate a health problem?
Not necessarily, in a situation where a specialist doctor suspects that the reason for excessive sweating is of another health nature, he will refer you to a specialist examination.
