Laser acne scar removal experience - before and after

At the Diva Dr. Bogdanović polyclinic, doctors specializing in the treatment of acne have 2 lasers at their disposal.
What lasers do dermatology specialists at the Diva Polyclinic use to solve this problem?
Several medical lasers are available to our patients.
And which doctor will choose depends on the type of scar, its age and skin type.
In most cases, they will use:
- Fractionated Er:Yag laser or
- 4D Combo laser.
Fractionated Er:Yag for the treatment of acne scars
Fractional technology gives a strong effect with a short recovery period – about 48 hours (which depends on the skin type, health condition, genetics, hormonal status and age of the patient).
This is a new generation laser that is ideal for treating different types of scars.
The laser beam of the Er:Yag laser produces microwounds throughout the depth of the skin, which stimulates regeneration and the creation of new collagen in the skin. And with peeling, it removes the surface layer of the skin, which causes the scars to become shallower from treatment to treatment.
How many treatments are needed?
It all depends on the type of scar, its age, size and location. Usually 3 treatments are enough, with a month’s break between them.
How long does recovery take after fractional laser therapy?
About 48 hours. It depends on skin type, patient’s health condition, genetics, hormonal status and age.

4D Combo laser - Fractionated Er:Yag - Nd Yag laser for the treatment of acne scars
By adding the Nd Yag laser to the fractionated Er:Yag, we increase the power of the treatment for removing scars, and this combination has overcome the inadequate effectiveness of non-ablative lasers and the long recovery after treatment with surgical lasers. Thus, a significant effect is achieved in a comfortable way without a long recovery period.
Treatment with this laser is:
- safe and
- a minimally invasive procedure to remove acne scars.
Given that the light beam of the 4D Combo laser has an anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect, it is a very effective and safe therapy for the removal of acne scars.
A few reasons that represent the benefits of the 4D Combo laser for acne scar removal:
- 3 treatments are required for the effective treatment of acne scars (which depends on the type of skin and where the acne scars are located),
- after the treatment, the recovery is very fast and you can resume your regular activities very quickly,
- after the treatment the skin is slightly red (the redness goes away in 12 hours),
- the treatment is comfortable,
- treatment with the 4D Combo laser leads to an improvement in the quality of the skin,
- the procedure takes about 20 minutes.
How many treatments are needed to treat acne scars with the 4D Combo Laser?
On average, it takes about 3 treatments with breaks of one month. It depends on the skin type, type, age and size, as well as where the acne scars are located and is individual for each patient.
What does recovery look like after 4D Combo laser treatment?
Recovery is fast. After this procedure, the skin has a slight redness that passes in about 12 hours.
Acne scars can be successfully treated with Fractionated Erbium: Yag or 4D Combo lasers!
Does the laser procedure hurt?
The painlessness of the treatment is ensured by forced cooling of the skin with a special device, and therefore it is not necessary to use local anesthesia.
Contraindications for laser treatment
- people who have epilepsy and
- pregnant women.
Is there another way to treat acne scars at Diva Polyclinic?
Yes. In addition to laser treatment of acne scars, PRP treatment is also available to our patients.

PRP treatment for treating acne scars
PRP is a treatment that promotes tissue regeneration and better blood flow in the skin. This is because growth factors from the patient’s own blood plasma are used during it. That is, the ability of the organism to heal itself is used.
Since it affects the creation of new collagen, this procedure, in addition to rejuvenation, is also ideal for treating scars. At the same time, it improves skin tone and elasticity.
The advantage is that PRP treatment can be combined with laser therapy.
Is PRP a safe procedure?
Bearing in mind that during PRP treatment we use the patient’s own blood plasma, there are no immune or allergic reactions.
How many treatments are needed to remove scars?
It all depends on the type of scar and its age. That’s why a dermatology specialist makes a decision about it during free consultations.
And usually 3 treatments are done at intervals of one month.
Why is it important to have a FREE consultation at the DIVA polyclinic before the procedure?
Dermatology specialist doctors at the Diva Polyclinic make a decision on the type and size of the scar, the condition of the skin, genetics, hormonal status and the place where the scars are located during a FREE consultation, which laser will be used. Also include PRP treatment.

Acne scars - how do they form?
Scars are formed from fibrous tissue – dense connective tissue. They consist of collagen fibers that replace the normal structure of the skin damaged by the inflammatory process that is characteristic of acne.
That is why, in most cases, they manifest as defects on the skin – dimples of different depth and shape (characteristic of the face) or if they are above the skin level – hypertrophic scars or keloids (characteristic of body regions).
There are 2 types of acne scars:
- scars below the skin level (tissue loss – atrophy – this type of scarring occurs more often).
- scars above the skin level (keloids and hypertrophic scars are caused by the creation of a larger amount of collagen, which creates fibrous masses and they are pink, smooth and firm. They decrease over time, but do not disappear, and there may be a hereditary tendency to such scars).

What kind of acne scar will remain on the skin depends on how long the inflammatory process lasted, what the genetic predisposition is, as well as how strong the inflammatory process was.
Of course, it would be great to prevent the formation of acne scars, that is, to treat acne in time. However, if a scar appears, then special attention should be paid to its removal.
Atrophic scars
This type of scar is sunken and whitish damage to the skin. They are simply removed with a medical laser. It sinks into the surrounding skin and becomes almost imperceptible.
It is better to treat them while they are young.
Forms of atrophic scars:
- ice pick,
- box scar and
- rolling

Icepick scars
A common type of scarring that resembles enlarged pores.
They penetrate deep into the skin and are very narrow. When you look at the surface of the skin, it looks like it was pierced with small ice spikes, which is how they got their name.
Box scar
They can be oval or round. They are wider than icepick scars and in most cases they appear in the cheek region.
Rolling scars
The skin affected by these scars appears wavy. They are usually wide and shallow.

Keloid scars – keloids
They are formed already after about 2 months. They are firm, reddish or purple raised formations, and can be discretely painful to the touch. Their edges are often irregular in shape.
They can cause unpleasant itching, which is why patients often come for an examination.
Over time, tissue swelling occurs, and keloids become harder and darker.
These scars occur in about 4% to 5% of the general population.
The most common keloid regions are the chest, shoulders and back. However, when there is a strong tendency to keloids, then they can also appear in other places.
It is ideal to treat them within 2 years. If there is a reaction in that time period, it is possible to reduce them with the use of medical lasers. With their help, his height and blood supply are reduced.
How many treatments are needed to remove scars?
They are formed above the skin level. Their color is reddish or purple.
They are already noticeable about a month after tissue injury.
As they ripen they become lighter. And this most often happens after the first year from the appearance of the scar
What are all the ways to remove acne scars?

The most frequently asked questions about the procedure for the laser treatment of acne scars and pimples
1. Is the cream effective for acne scars?
Once the scar has already formed, it cannot be reduced with a cream. Acne scar creams and gels can only be effective during the healing process.
However, when the scar is formed. When it is white and mature, it cannot be affected by any preparation, but only by laser or PRP therapy or surgery.
2. Is it possible to remove pimple marks?
As a result of acne, spots often remain, which can be red or darkly discolored. Effective removal of acne spots is possible with different types of lasers.
Polyclinic Diva has as many as 4 lasers that can treat both red and dark spots:
- DLight SL

3. Is it possible to prevent the appearance of scar tissue after pimples?
Whether scar tissue will form after pimples depends on several factors:
- From the skin type. (If the skin is genetically prone to scarring, the possibility of scar tissue formation is greater. In such patients, hypertrophic or keloid scars appear even after a cut, which is a sign that the inflammation caused by acne will most likely lead to the appearance of scar tissue.)
- From the type and form of acne. (Mild or moderately severe forms, if they are treated in a timely manner with lasers and adequate home care, have significantly less possibility of such consequences.)
- From the duration of inflammation. (If the inflammation lasts a long time, the possibility of serious consequences is greater.)
- Was the treatment started in a timely manner. (If the treatment is started in the stage of mild inflammation – open and closed comedones with individual acne, a significantly better outcome of the treatment is expected without consequences in the form of scars.)
